An informational poster for USC Roski School of Art and Design's annual lecture series where I worked under designer April Greiman.

Concept

Create a poster for University of Southern California's Roski School of Art and Design's annual lecture series.

Inspired by Paula Scher, David Carson, Massimo Vignelli, Fluxus and Surface Magazine, I wanted to reference iconic designers and design periods, as the lecture series is about the practice of art and design.

Experimentation

Because the poster is for designers and an art and design school, I wanted to try a more experimental approach, as this setting gives me the freedom to explore.

After I created a couple of layout designs, I printed some out, poured corn syrup on them and covered them with plastic wrap to warp and manipulate the text. I photographed the results, cleaned them up and added them to the layout.

Initial drafts

The Roski faculty chose the third draft.

Colorization

Once the copy was finalized, I laid it out according to the chosen style and added color.

Finalization

I was given the opportunity to work with renowned designer April Greiman, and we made this version. I learned about her design style in the process, and it was a great opportunity to learn from her.
